‘The visual nature of dreams is generally highly phantasmagoric; that is different locations and objects continuously blend into each other. The visuals (including locations, characters/people, objects/artifacts) are generally reflective of a person’s memories and experiences, but often take on highly exaggerated and bizarre forms.’
This is the keysentence Jasper Hoover works. He makes a translation from structures one can find in dreamprocesses to a visual language. He realizes his images by Lithography. By using different layers in one image he connects to the conceptual content, both form and content. Possible themes are for instance: transformation, phantasmagorie, free association, the lack of logic, the narrative, memories, shapeshifting, different realities, the unconscious and the ‘uncanny’ (familiar and foreign at the same time).
The proces of his work is not about searching for the meaning of the content of the different images but about using the structures that are specific for dreams as a drawing- and paintingtool. Important is that his imagery is found in the grey area of searching but not finding the final concept. His imagery is in that sense vague, could lead to new meanings and is ambiguous. There is never one single content present.
